Healthy Weight Loss Programs to Consider
How many times have you set out to looking for some healthy weight loss programs that will help you to lose that extra bit of weight that you’ve gained not just over the holidays, but throughout the whole year?
According to a survey taken by the University of Scranton, on New Year’s Eve, 2014, losing weight was the number one resolution that people made.
Millions of Americans struggle with trying to lose weight and at any given point, you will find someone on some sort of weight loss program.
The truth of the matter is that some of those healthy weight loss programs that are out there may work for a short time, but unless you make life changes, you can bet that you will almost always fail and gain the weight back. But, why?
Breaking Down Popular Healthy Weight Loss Programs
If you’ve ever taken a close look at what makes up a weight loss program, you will see that you are always cutting something out of your diet like carbohydrates, dairy, or red meat; or, you are focusing on a “magic” food—think the cabbage soup diet or the grapefruit fad.
The problem with the weight loss programs that say you have to restrict or eliminate a particular food group from your diet is that you need the nutrients that are commonly found in those foods!
Let’s not even get started on the diets that say such-and-such food will help you melt the fat off your body. That’s just a downright lie.
There is no one particular food that will melt the fat away. If you really think about it, how many different foods have been claimed to have this ability, only to be replaced by a completely different food the very next month?
Another problem with a lot of weight loss programs is that they are pretty unrealistic.
A lot of these programs tout that you will have fast results if you follow the guidelines of the program verbatim; however, when you initially read those guidelines, they may sound pretty straightforward and simple to follow. Except, sometimes they are more restrictive and rigid than you think.
People need variety in their diets. You can only eat so much salad and bland chicken breast before you crack, which is usually way before you begin to see those fabled results.
For many people, they want those fast results but they also lack the patience and commitment that is required of the popular programs. So, they almost always give up; or they join a subscription-based weight loss program that will provide you with “acceptable” meals.
These particular programs that have you purchasing a meal plan can actually end up costing you more money in the long run than if you were to cook healthy food for yourself at home.
Popular programs like Jenny Craig often charge you enrollment fees, membership fees, shipping costs plus the cost of the food. Now, these plans can be useful for people who have a lot of disposable income, but for the majority of people, it just is not feasible.
Do It Yourself Healthy Weight Loss Programs
There is no one weight loss program that works better than another. Sure, there are hundreds of programs available that you could try, but why would you? If you have a weight that you need to lose, perhaps you should look at creating your own program.
When you are creating your own program, one of the first things you have to keep in mind is to set a realistic goal for yourself. If you want to lose fifty pounds before that class reunion in two months, that is definitely not a realistic goal.
A good rule of thumb is to expect to lose one to two pounds a week. By losing small amounts of weight at a time, you are more likely to keep it off for the long term.
One of the most difficult parts of creating a weight loss program deals with your food consumption. You need to sit back and recognise what kind of food you like, what you don’t, what you crave most often, and also what kind of eater you are—do you overeat because you are bored, stressed, or emotional?
When you have the food aspect figured out, you can choose healthy options that will satisfy your cravings and help keep you full.
The last component to a successful weight loss program is physical activity! You can eat the healthiest food available, but you will not see results if you do not exercise.
Sure, you may lose a little bit of weight, but without proper exercise, your weight loss will be minimal and your body will be on the flabby side.
You’ll find that when you exercise, your body will become lean and toned, you’ll have more energy, and you may even surprise yourself when you begin to look forward to your workouts!
